Danny's Platform

Meet Danny Luoma

I’m a software engineering leader with over 15 years of experience managing complex systems, tight budgets, and diverse teams. I’m currently serving on Mountlake Terrace’s Fiscal Sustainability Taskforce, where I'm helping analyze our city’s long-term financial outlook. I bring a collaborative, data-driven mindset to public service, and I’m committed to listening, learning, and leading with transparency.

Why I'm Running

I am running for Mountlake Terrace City Council because I care deeply about this city. It is my home, and it is where I am raising my daughter.

I’ve lived in Mountlake Terrace for over a decade. In that time, I’ve seen how much this community has to offer and how important it is to protect what makes it special. Our city is in a solid position today, but we need to take smart, forward-thinking action to stay that way.

Across Washington, we have seen the consequences when cities delay action on financial challenges. Cle Elum is considering bankruptcy. Brier is facing significant service cuts. Edmonds is preparing for a possible emergency levy. I do not want Mountlake Terrace to face those kinds of choices in the future.

We need thoughtful leadership that understands how to manage resources, plan for growth, and prioritize what matters most to residents. I believe in building a financially stable city that remains livable, welcoming, and vibrant for decades to come.

Priorities

  •  Long-Term Fiscal Sustainability –  Mountlake Terrace is in strong financial shape today, but that will not continue without careful planning and responsible leadership.  I’ve studied our budget trends and am serving on the Fiscal Sustainability Taskforce to understand what’s coming. Cities like Brier, Edmonds, and Cle Elum show what happens when financial issues are ignored. I want to ensure we maintain services, avoid sudden tax spikes, and make decisions that keep our city financially resilient - not just this year, but 10, 20, and 30 years from now.
  • A Connected and Caring Community –   As a parent raising a daughter in Mountlake Terrace, I want our city to be a place where everyone feels safe, welcome, and engaged. Building a connected community means supporting public safety, maintaining and improving our parks and green spaces, and investing in local programs that bring people together. I will lead by listening, collaborating, and working to ensure that every resident feels heard and valued in the decisions that shape our future.
  • Smart, Community-Focused Growth –   The arrival of light rail and ongoing development have positioned Mountlake Terrace for significant change. I support growth that respects the unique character of our community. That includes walkable neighborhoods, thriving local businesses, and housing options that meet the needs of families, seniors, and young professionals. To grow responsibly, we must invest in the infrastructure, transportation, and planning needed to ensure that growth benefits all residents while preserving the qualities that make our city special.
